College can be a whirlwind full of craziness. There’s always so much to do and hardly any time at all. That is why it’s so important to have a student planner and an effective one, at that.
Today I will be showing you how to appropriately organize your planner. I personally love the Erin Condren Life Planner in the hourly layout. Plus, when you add in the Erin Condren Academic Planner, you’ll be set! Pairing the two allows for optimal success.
Why Do I Need Two Planners?!
When you look at the Erin Condren Life Planner, it’s actually quite big. Maybe even too big to tote around in your backpack every day. That’s where the academic planner comes in handy. The academic planner is smaller, more compact, and specifically designed for a student.
The Life Planner is perfect for day-to-day activities and keeping your ENTIRE life in check, but it’s just not necessary when it comes to keeping track of assignments. Having a separate planner just for school allows you to focus on your classes, assignments, and exams.
But you see, you can’t function on the Academic Planner alone.
The Erin Condren Life Planner.
There’s more to keep track of than just academia. The Hourly Life Planner is perfect for any student. It allows you to visually see your day as a whole. With a quick glance, you’ll know when you plan on grabbing lunch, heading to the gym, working on homework, or meeting a friend for coffee.
As I mentioned before, college is a whirlwind. At first, it might seem doable without a planner. But as the semester goes on, you’ll notice that you start to get overwhelmed by everything you need to remember. How are you suppose to remember what you learned in class if you can’t even remember when you were supposed to work on a group project?
If you don’t think the hourly layout will work for you, then try the vertical or horizontal layout.
Keeping track of when your classes are and how long they are will help you manage your time better. Having these written down first will help you to schedule other meetings and study sessions better.
I mean, I really should have put this before classes because it’s so important! If you’re tight on time eating can easily fall through the cracks. Having full and nutritious meals is so important to college success. Make it a point to schedule in time to eat!
Homework & Studying.
Throughout college, I would spend hours on ONE homework assignment. No matter your major you’ll find yourself spending an enormous amount of time doing homework and studying. That’s why it’s important to schedule it in.
Healthy & Wellbeing.
Maintaining an active lifestyle is really important to me. I didn’t want to get caught in the Freshman 15 spiral of madness. Make sure to schedule in time for both fitness and personal time (aka reading book, taking baths, and painting your nails).

The Erin Condren Academic Planner.
When you don’t want the rest of your life mixing with your school work, the Academic Planner will have your back. Specifically designed for students, the planner is undated and has six months of planning space – perfect for a semester. There are specific places for projects, exams, assignments, and notes.
The weekly layout allows you to keep track of assignments they day you receive them. Wisely providing a space for the class name, assignment name, and it’s due date. I personally like to color code my classes within the academic planner. This makes it easier to glance at quickly.
Projects, Exams, and Quizzes.
Having a big project or exam sneak up on you is one of the worst feelings. It creates a ridiculous amount of stress that wouldn’t have evolved if you’d just planned ahead. Each month there is a dedicated section for items just like these. Keep track of the details, instructions, and due date.
Investing In Your Education.
Don’t let yourself get sticker shock from the price of a Life Planner. Yes, it can be kind of expensive, especially for a college student. But, if you think about it… this planner is going to organize your entire life! It will help you to stay on track, achieve your goals, and relieve stress from not knowing when an assignment is due or when your next meeting is.

The Essential Erin Condren Accessories.
Using these two planners by themselves is plenty to keep you organized. But, if you’re like me and love to plan then you’ll enjoy the little extras that Erin Condren offers.
Number one on this list needed to be the school tracker dashboard. This is a great way to keep track of assignments, projects, and exams if you don’t want to purchase the Academic Planner. It easily clips into your Life Planner and can be used over and over.
Decorating your planner with stickers is becoming more and more common. I’m not one to go too overboard, but I do enjoy adding a few here and there. The sticker books offer a great variety to use throughout the year. If you’re looking for something education specific, then I suggest the Cool For School sticker book.
These were definitely some of the first things I added to my shopping cart when I was Purchasing my Life Planner. I’m a lover of pens and marker pens. I highly recommend these if you’re wanting to color coordinate your planner.
A new addition to the Erin Condren accessories is the stencil! At first, I wasn’t sure if I’d use it, but it’s come in handy more time than one. It’s great to make your lines straight and create checklists.
Is a student planner something you utilize throughout the school year? Do you need an Erin Condren planner to keep you organized?
