Stress Less During Finals Week

Finals week can get hectic. Some classes solely depend on exam grades. Stressful situations like these can tend to make us all a bit crazy. To overcome these hurdles you need to have a a go-to plan. Here are some quick fixes to stress less during finals week! More importantly, these can be used in any type of stressful situation.

1. Focus on what you can control

It’s important not to get caught up in what could be or should have been. Focus on what you can do at this very moment.

2. Go for a walk

Exercise is known to release endorphins, which in turn can make you happy and less stressed 🙂 Go for a walk/run, try some Pilates, or maybe just do a bit of stretching. My favorite stretching guide is by Elle Fit Active, it’s honestly perfect!

3. Color

Adult coloring books have seemed to skyrocket in popularity recently and I can understand why. Mindlessly drawing/coloring is a great escape from any stressing situation. I love the one I have, Enchanted Forest by Johanna Basford.

4. Talk about it

Ask a friend to grab a coffee with you or just chill somewhere. Tell them what you’re worried or stressed about. Often times you’re probably overanalyzing how big the stressful situation is. Talking to someone about it can help to calm you.

5. Breath

Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Take deep breaths and focus on your belly/chest raising and lowering. If you wish, close your eyes while you do this. If you’re more of a visual person, the image below may help. Focusing on your breath helps to ease your mind.

6. Look for opportunities in life’s challenges

Try to think on the bright side, positivity is the key to happiness!

7. Dance it out

Who doesn’t love dancing around their room like a crazed maniac?! I know from personal experience that this is a HUGE stress reliever!

8. Treat Yourself

Grab a friend and go get some ice cream or fro-yo! Maybe bake yourself some cookies or brownies. I know that baking is a big stress reliever for me, it keeps my mind busy!

9. Reminisce about good times

Spend some time reflecting on the happier times in your life, the things that bring joy to your mind instantaneously. Remembering about wonderful things can decrease stress.

10. Ask for a hug

Hugs can do a world of wonder for you! Often times you simply need just a bit of comforting.

11. Go to bed earlier

I’ve mentioned before (in my How to Have a Happier Morning post) that getting enough sleep is extremely important. Getting the proper amount of sleep allows your brain to fully recharge for the next full day of activities!

12. Smile

It’s simple. Remember to smile!
